In the middle of summer, the one sweet treat I remember from childhood is Water Ice. I think it is impossible to grow up in Philly and not have tried water ice at any point.
I always search online to see what foods are on the the “Best of Philly” list and I found this business located in the Spring Garden section of the city. On a lazy summer afternoon with kids in tow we made our way there.
Philly Flavors, offers a wide selection of water ice flavors and the prices are really reasonable for a huge portion. The size small were under $3.00 w/o tax but look at the very generous serving. For my ladybug I ordered the kid’s size which is enough if you are just interested in a sampling. The water ice has the right amount of sweetness but not syrupy. Oh, an added treat is the addition of fruit in some of the flavors. I ordered the blueberry flavor and it was filled with blueberries, same for the cherry flavor filled with cherries.
I am looking forward to going back and try a banana ice cream for another treat. You can order on one side and enjoy your treat on the other side of the location.
If you’re planning a visit, this is worth a trip before the summer ends. Our order included blueberry, cherry, mango and lemon.
