School Supplies

It’s August and the countdown to back to school has arrived.    Here are some of our back to school staples each year.  Target has everything we need each year and it is nice to shop for everything in one place.   We have three more weeks before school starts and I just realized we do not have our school supply list.

Back to School Teacher’s Gift

DIY Back to School Teacher Gift

As the summer is winding to a close.   It is time to start shopping for school necessities.   For your kid’s teachers, here is a creative back to school gift you can put together in minutes.

Thanks to Danyelle at TheCubicleChick for this cool DIY Back to School Teacher Gift idea.   On Saturday we had a weekend trip to Target and stopped by the $1-$3 spot.  How can you walk in Target and miss this section of the store? It’s right at the entrance just whispering come over!   First you get us with the bright lights and dazzling color scheme and now this aisle, Target.  Thanks for yet another reason to spend more coins in your store!

My kids start school on September 8th, and we are still without the name of my  3rd grader’s teacher.  We’re getting the gift ready to go.

As you can see we found chalkboard labels, the bucket, a notepad, 2015-2016 planner, pens and pencils all for $1.   Cool, right!

Single Mom Chronicles: A Day in the Life of CocoaMommy

Sep 16, 2015

Dayinthelife

Last week was our first official back to school and back to work week.    While I like having a set schedule for myself and the kids adjusting before the sun is a challenge.

How did I prepare for the  week?

  1. I prepared 3 make ahead meals for dinner(lasagna, sloppy joes and sliders) and 2 for breakfast(mini quiches and wraps)
  2. My 3rd grader arranged all of her outfits for the week including undergarments and socks.   For my teen, I made sure he could find everything he needed for clothing. It’s a little harder to get him to arrange clothing for the week.  I made sure all laundry and clothes were in dresser or closet.
  3. I arranged and ironed all of my outfits in the closet for the week, jewelry, shoes and handbags.  Arranged in the front of closet for easy access.
  4. I made kid’s lunches and put in the refrigerator for the week.   For my teen I made sure his brown bags were packed for the week with his snacks.  Try to make the night before if possible.

These tips helped us to save to much time and kept everyone organized. We’re on week 2.

I mapped out exactly how much time we need for our morning routine.   How we start our day?  We have 2 bathrooms in our apartment so this makes our mornings so much easier and stress free.

5:30    My alarm clock goes off, my bathroom routine begins

5:45    Teen up, bathroom routine begins

6:00    Brew coffee for my commute

6:15     3rd grader is up, bathroom.   I finish packing lunches for backpacks and load up my work tote bag.

6:15     Teen eating breakfast

6:30     3rd grader getting dressed, taking her medicine

6:50     Teen leaves for bus

7:00      3rd grader eating breakfast and I finish packing her backpack

7:15       Leaving, drop off 3rd grader at before care

7:35      Commute to work

8:15      Arrive at work

12:30    Lunch for me

5:00      Start my commute home

5:45      After care pick up 3rd grader

6:00       Arrive home

6:15        3rd grader  grabs a quick snack, checking homework

6:30-7:00    Heat up dinner

8:00       3rd grader getting ready for bed

8:30       3rd grader in bed

8:30-10:00   I clean up the kitchen, arrange everything for next day, watch a little bit of tv and then bed

10:00     Teen hands over his phone and Ipad

Lights out!!!!

My Kid’s Chronicles: 3rd Grade School Supply Haul

Aug 20, 2015

3rd Grade School Supplies

Why did this year of school supply shopping bring so much STRESS!!!! Initially, I wanted to shop online to save time and what I thought was money.   The school makes it easy by providing the school supply list for each grade.  I took the list and went online to really do some comparison shopping.    I started with STAPLES and even without a few of the items such as 2 boxes of tissues and plastic folders, my total was $66.00. Next up was AMAZON and some of the items were impossible to find individually there were a lot of items offered in bulk such as the marble composition books, spiral notebooks, plastic folders, tissues and disinfecting wipes for a total of $55(with items missing).    Lastly, I went to TARGET (with the intention of picking up at the local store) and that was a quick peruse of the site because a lot of the items were SOLD OUT!

3rd grade School Supplies
• One 1-inch 3-Ring Binder
• 2 Marble Composition Books
• 1 Set of Crayons or Colored Pencils
• 1 Divider – Avery – 5 Tab – White – Big Tab Write On
• 2 Dry Erase Markers
• 3 Erasers
• 1 Set Multiplication Flash Cards
• 1 Folder – Plastic & Pocket – Blue
• 1 Folder – Plastic & Pocket – Green
• 1 Folder – Plastic & Pocket – Orange
• 1 Folder – Plastic & Pocket – Red
• 1 Folder – Plastic & Pocket – Yellow
• 1 Folder – Plastic Pocket & Prong – Red
• 4 Glue Sticks
• 1 Hole Reinforcements – Qty 200 – Avery
• 1 Set of Washable Markers
• 2 Spiral Notebooks
• 4 Dozen Ticonderoga #2 Pencils
• 1 Hand Held Pencil Sharpener
• 1 School Box – 5 x 8 x 2 – Plastic – Clear
• 1 Pair Kids Scissors
• 4 Packs Post It – 3 x 3
• 2 Boxes Tissues
• 1 Container Clorox Disinfecting Wipes
• 1 Ziploc Bags Quart Size (Boy)
• 1 Ziploc Bags Gallon Size (Girl)

I never bothered to even total because I am such a ONE STOP SHOPPER! On Tuesday, me and my 3rd grader headed to FIVE BELOW and managed to find the majority of her items. Unfortunately, I had to go next door to STAPLES to pick up some items missing at FIVE BELOW.

BacktoSchoolStaples

Two stores later and would you believe I still need to go to TARGET for an orange plastic folder,  tissues, and disinfecting wipes as I know they are priced better than STAPLES and there is a chance I can use my CARTWHEEL!

Last year I used these labels to personalize the supplies. BacktoSchoollabels
