New Year Goals for Physical and Mental Health

This picture brings such good emotions as it was my first momcation in nine years. As I have stated in previous years, I do not like resolutions but need to focus more on yearly goals. This is a year for a big milestone birthday and I plan to capture taking care of self each month. I realized how I have neglected taking care of self and not until my solo trip to Miami did I realize how necessary it is to have no schedule. My trip was only for a few days but being near the ocean and beach was refreshing. I loved not having an alarm clock set, no plans, no schedules, and most of all no disgruntled kids in the background. Parenting is a full-time job and yes it is absolutely a must to clock out to focus on self.

My goals for this year is to maintain my home workout fitness regimen. I feel it is important to encourage women over 45 to exercise, eat better, and take care of their mental well-being. Another goal is to do more travel solo and with the kids.

In 2018, I committed to scheduling manicures and pedicures. Also, found a new aesthetician for waxing and the best seasonal facials. My pampering goals will include:

  • monthly massages
  • manicures and pedicures
  • facials

I realize my physical health is not just about working out and eating better but also making changes that impact of my overall physical health.

  • taking multivitamins and supplements
  • drinking more water
  • more sleep (scheduling and sticking to a bedtime) – my physician assistant gave me a number of ways to help in this area which I will share on a later post.

Now for my mental health, this is a tough one because every day is so dynamic. The idea of juggling life outside of the home and then life at home as a parent is challenging.

  • trying yoga at least once a month
  • disconnecting from social media at the end of my day

I am optimistic for a healthier and happier 2019.

Decompress and treat myself is my 2019 mantra. I am getting back to my daily yoga and tea time. More water is also on tap (no pun intended) as for more sleep? With a 7 yr old that one may have to wait !

Great tips! I am trying to disconnect more from social media! But monthly or bimonthly facials and massages seems like something I can incorporate!!!

Great tips! I’m in desperate need of a massage. One of my goals is to incorporate more self care into my day, week and month.

A monthly massage sounds incredible. Travel was my favorite self-care, sometimes it was just a weekend trip. We didn’t do any traveling last year because we built a new home. This year I am getting that old thing back. I turn 40 and I am blowing the roof off of every dag on thing.

I am getting fitness in my life and I have started drinking a ton of water. This is all about a new me.

These are all great tips! I would love to go on a momcation and I really miss going to get manicures and pedicures. I think I am going to start getting manicures again to give me a little me-time outside of the house. Maybe I can commit to getting a massage at least once this year..lol

Yes for focusing on our health and self-care all 2019, not just in January. Love all of your ideas for focusing on self-care, health and mental health. I started having regular massages mid-2018 and plan to keep that up. I’ve been investing in great skin care products to have weekly facials.

Yes. so true. I have a great place here that offers a monthly plan at a reduced cost. I found a wonderful aesthetician who I go to for seasonal facials. Mind, Body. And Soul!!

I started off small withdoing a polish change, a small treat to yourself is a mood booster. A manicure and/or pedicure can be a monthly or every other treat. For the massage, once a year for your birthday.

The local place I visited some years ago for a massage has a monthly plan at a reduced rate. I would to do more travel more this year. My biggest trip will be to celebrate the 5-0 in October. Fitness has become priority as I am aging. It becomes a lifestyle which leads to consistency.

Absolutsly, it can be something small like enjoying your favorite coffee or tea curled up with a book for some downtime. It counts that we do it.

My aesthetician told me to do facials at the top of every season. Each season brings different requirements for our skin. Massages once a quarter is a start.

We enjoyed our yoga classvlast Sunday. The class with my tween was more fun than I anticipated. We practiced side by side. I’m planning to do their 5 class pass for both of us. Good sleep takes planning each night to wind diwn and agree with kids it can be hit or miss.

I’d love to be able to disconnect from social media at least one day a week, but it’s really hard when I manage social media for clients. I’ve got to take time to get ahead and schedule my work.
