As an undercover foodie, can I just say I love this show? I had the opportunity to watch the latest episode, Daring Parings. There are four chefs with a team of 4 members. The members are assigned a food challenge each week. The chefs include Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson, Ludo Lefebvre, and Brian Malarkey. My favorite chefs is the mix of Chef Ludo with his feisty attitude and Chef Brian because he brings super energy. Each member of the team has to use their creativity to come up with an over-the-top recipe. Each team member will taste one another’s recipes with the chef and decide whose recipe should be presented to the guest chefs. On this episode the top chef with David Kinch and Sommelier, Andre Mack.
Each team was presented with five unique ingredients while selecting only one ingredient to come up with a recipe that pairs well with the 5 different wines. I noticed that most of the team members were chefs, however one team member was a food blogger and caterer. It is a diverse mix of team members with different levels of experience. After the spoons are presented to the guest chefs who act as mentors, the recipes are voted on and the best recipes gives that member immunity from elimination. The team members are then sent back to the kitchen with their mentors to prepare the elimination recipes. The four chefs then select their best 4 and worst 4. Two of the bottom 4 are subject to elimination.
All of this intense cooking is performed within one hour time frames. It is so high energy that your mind is spinning while you’re mouth is watering for the recipes. The downside is a viewer does not get to taste a spoon!
