Judge Finalizes Divorce
When the judge signs off on the divorce decree, what next? In an earlier post, I marked my 6-week countdown until my divorce decree reached the judge’s desk for his or her signature. I formally wrote my attorney a lengthy email in August stating that I did not want another year to go by without finalizing my divorce. Today was a really odd day, after 11 days off from work it was time to head back into the office. I was totally sleep deprived and feeling unfocused. Eleven days out of the office makes it difficult to snap back into the routine. During the lunch hour, I decided to call the prothonotary’s office to check the status of my case and to my surprise the clerk told me “the judge has signed off” . I thought I heard her correctly but needed to hear the statement again for verification.
The next step is for my attorney’s office to mail the decree and I continue to pay the lofty legal costs accrued. I know some may judge my level of excitement, my response is DON’T JUDGE ME. Divorce can take many twists and turns that leave you feeling stressed, emotionally drained, financially drained, anxious and utterly exhausted. Everyone’s situation is completely different however for me this is the start of a new chapter in my life. What I deem a victory is bittersweet as there are children involved. I would not wish DIVORCE on any child (ren). However, in my opinion, it is healthier both physically and mentally to raise children separately for the sake of their well-being than in a home filled with constant angst and unrest.
I have no regrets about my decision and look forward to firmly closing this chapter of my life and moving on to the next chapter(s). Yes, I would like to celebrate in the form of a party with close family and friends. NEW YEAR, NEW CHAPTER!
