I searched for months to find the right vacation spot for me and the kids. Their choice was to fly to the west coast and my thought was could we make this work economically. After perusing travel sites, I found a package for over $2000 that included airfare and a resort hotel. The only issue was factoring in meals and transportation. This was a quick decision on the “no” list. Then Myrtle Beach, SC was my next thought but then I realized the long drive with one driver, not a good idea. Although the rentals were extremely attractive in terms of costs for a week.
My last resort was to find a local beach spot so after multiple visits to my go to site VRBO.com I found a rental in Ocean City, NJ. The rental unit was only 1 1/2 blocks from the beach and boardwalk and considering it was the last week in August this was definitely a go.
Ocean City, NJ is the perfect vacation spot if you are staying with children. The boardwalk has Wonderland, an outdoor amusement park with plenty of rides for kids and if this gets boring you walk up the boardwalk to Playland, another outdoor amusement park filled with various rides and an arcade. All along the boardwalk are eateries with the usual beach goers food items, pizza, fries, funnel cake, etc….There are enough restaurants to find the right fit for your appetite. Also along the boardwalk are two minature golf courses and a waterpark. You can rent a surrey or bikes for riding along the boardwalk. On the end of our week we rented bikes for a really reasonable rate, $7 per hour. We did two laps up and down the boardwalk in less than a hour. Our favorite eateries were Manco & Manco pizza and the Dog Shack which offered every topping*with fresh ingredients) imaginable on a hot dog, corn dogs, Angus burgers, homemade chips, and frozen lemonade.
