I often hear women say life begins at 40. Ok, I’m still waiting and wondering if I’m on the same train. One reality check for me was scheduling an overdue eye exam and being fitted for glasses. I remember the optometrist saying oh you’re 42, you went a while before needing glasses. Most people are fitted by 40. I wondered, should I be flattered? or insulted? The glasses are to lessen the strain on my eyes if working on a computer.
I think back on how ridiculous I was to buy into the hype of being too thin! Most of it was influenced by comparing myself to my peers and people telling me I was too thin. Guess what? I have learned to fully embrace my genetics even after two babies. I love the fact my wardrobe is still in the single digits, not too shabby for 42! Two months ago I saw a high school/college classmate and her comment after embracing was “Are you ever going to gain weight?” I chuckled and now I know Everything is not for Everyone…….I’m good in my skin!
Last week, Jada Pinkett Smith posted a picture of herself on Facebook looking fabulous in a bikini with the following caption “To my Forty and over crew! Don’t believe the hype…we DO get better with age!” I was always a fan since her character on Different World….This is what I am striving for in my bikini, not far to go…..watch out Miami here I come real soon!
