Montessori vs. Preschool? My 3yo has been in a daycare center for about a year and a half. I feel she has learned a lot however I want her to transition to an environment that encourages independence within a mixed age group. I think the misnomer about a Montessori is that children are free to what they want when they want. However, I look at the environment as freedom of expression within limits. In my opinion, a Montessori fosters an environment that teaches respect for one another and the environment. I also like the mixed age group. For my DD, I believe this will give her an opportunity to learn from the older students as well as how to effectively work alone and with her peers. The classroom promotes a sense of community for the children. After visiting a Montessori last week, I loved how the children are exposed to a variety of subject matters throughout the classroom that included geology, botany, cultural, life skills, math and an emphasis on social graces. The teachers are highly trained in the Montessori methodology which provides the expertise to effectively encourage your child’s growth and development.
3 years old is the prime age to begin a Montessori program because it will give her 3 full years. Now with all the positives related to this enriching environment comes the financial investment. A Montessori school is a tuition based program so this choice is a major parental commitment. In some cases, financial assistance is available. Based on my visit and research, I am sold a Montessori is the best environment for my 3yo. Stay tuned 🙂
