Driving with the Kids

It is inevitable that I have to travel in the car with my 9yo DS  and 3yo DD.   The only thing I beg of them is just a little peace and quiet until we reach our destination.  Normally the ride starts off without a hitch and then it all goes down hill.   One is shouting for the other to stop touching him or her,  then the demands to put their windows down(I usually have on the window lock), demands to change the radio station and heaven help me if I put on my CD selections.  My music selections causes them to chant in protest.  After this display of rebellion,  I resort to turning off the radio.   Oh and let me not  forgot the tug of war in the backseat for a toy that was tucked away in the car for weeks.

How do I make the rides uneventful? I thought about purchasing a portable DVD player(with headphones of course) until I thought about the arguments over which movies to watch.   My stomach was in knots for a moment.  There has to be a device that provides the relaxed ride a mom craves while driving with the kids.

Another issue  I have while driving with kids is how my backseat is transformed  into a dump for toys, wrappers, juice boxes/pouches, snacks, shoes, and whatever else they must have in my car.

When I am long past forward facing car seats and a booster seat I dream of owning a 2 seater convertible for me and my handbag!
